At which airport will you come to Tehran? There are two airports for international flights. I took Turkish Airlines flight few months ago and the plane landed in Mehrabad Airport. From there you can take a taxi. Inside the terminal building I was approached by unofficial taxi drivers who asked few times more money as fail fare is to the city. Outside the terminal there are official taxis. And these airport taxis were the only ones I saw in Iran who had meters. I can't answer you for Tehran hotels in this price category.

hi.I think JS77 has given you a sound advice.make sure you absolutely dont get on 'private' and illegal cabs/taxis at the airport at 3am, regardless of the fare, which is usually very high as well, specially if you are a international tourist!and since such cabbies know you do not speak the lanugage nor know the city well, they can take you places where you dont want to go, if you know what i mean. so taking these kind of cabs can be a very expensive as well as dangerous thing to do. as for cheap hotels in tehran, there is one called 'naderi' on jomhouri avenue, which i have heard tends not to charge more than $35 a night. but you really cannot make a reservation at cheap hotels like that,in iran. you just have to walk in, get a room and pay the fee. that is it.by the way, i forgot to say you may have to wait until 'it gets bright' before taking a cab and leaving the airport for your hotel, specially if you arrive at the Imam Khomeini Aiport. So make sure you buy a ticket from an airline, if at all possible, that lands at the Mehrabad Airport and not I.K. your troubles would be considerably less if your lands at Mehrabad, which is only a few kilometers from the center of the city.I will send you an email too.Thanks.Bye.

Hi MariaJesus.I forgot to ask what you meant by saying "next March". Do you mean march 2007, this year? In any case, please note that the entire country gets shut down and many millions go on vacation from March 20-24, which usually lasts all the way until April 2! Yes, I mean 2 weeks. Why? because it is the time when the 'Iranian New Year' begins and, as a result, it is almost impossible to find a available and afforedable room in a nice hotel or even a decent motel/guesthouse anywhere in the country! Worse yet general prices also tend to jump significantly just before the beginning of the new year and stay up there for a while. So, in my opinion, if you are planning to visit iran in March (this year or the next, does not matter really) you would do yoursef a very big favor if you arrived here after April 5 or early March.Thanks.Bye.
