The South Pole is closest to Amundsen-Scott research base. That is controlled by USA. There are many international scientists down there, but the only practical way to get there is to fly from McMurdo base which is also in Antartica. McMurdo is almost directly south from New Zealand, so that would be your closest port of departure.
Asia -> New Zealand -> McMurdo -> Amundsen-Scott If you are not a scientist going there for research, it would be difficult. To be able to fly from McMurdo to Amundsen-Scott, not only does it have to be in the summer time (maybe November through February), but you would have to have connections and/or reasonable funds to get on a USA military supply plane. People are stationed at Amundsen-Scott all year long, but they are completely isolated during the winter due to cold temperatures, winds and storms.

Thanks DSwede for putting the facts so clear cut. This puts an end to my curiosity but saves me from unrealistic Dreams.
