| Whistler | How long to stay in May Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 08:33 PM UTC
My daughter is working in Whistler for a year. I am going to visit her but dont ski so thought I would go in May when the snow has gone. We get on great but I dont want to embarrass her by hanging around her a lot - you know how kids are with their parents! I was wondering how long I should stay - was thinking of a week but will there be much to do? I am 55 and quite active - are there such things as group walks into the mountains and things like that and are there any other areas nearby to visit. Thanks

The odds are that there will be a lot of snow in May. So far Whistler is on a record breaking year as far as snow fall is concerned.
The ski season ends June 3 depending on conditions. Two years ago we were in Whistler the first week of July. The previous winter was not a good one for snow, yet many of the mountain trails were closed due to the snow pack. If you go to the Whistler web site you can check on some of the hikeing packages. It's still cheaper paying for a one way gondola/chair ride to the top and then hike down. You can also rent a bike in the Village and go bikeing on the numerous trails in the valley. To do anything in Whistler means spending money , unless you just hang out at restaurants in town or on the mountain.

One week gives you plenty of time to catch up with your daughter and to explore Whistler. It's a great little resort and it's become known for its all year round recreational activities: biking; hiking; snowshoeing; horseback riding; golfing; rock climbing; canoeing/kayaking; etc. Check out this great website: www.tourismwhistler.com/, they list all the activities you can do and to hook up with various organizations. There is even a section called Twenty Things To Do In Whistler for under $25. Don't forget there are also great little specialty shops and some wonderful restaurants and cafes. Have a great time!
