Ushuaia Ushuaia first week in April? And renting a car?
Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 03:14 PM UTC
Hi, I was wondering, has anyone been to Ushuaia during the first week of april? Is it okay to go then? Are there flights and things to do, or is it too cold by then?

Also, has anyone ever rented a car and DRIVEN from El Calafate to Ushuaia? Can you even do that with the terrain?

Thanks!

Did a bus ride from El Calafate till Punta Arenas and had a car as well in El Calafate (ruta 40) as in Pt Natales to Torres del Paine. I think it wouldn't be a problem (weather depending).

By the way: did you check a one way drop off fee ??

No, I can't find info on renting a car one way.

Here's my dilema, I'm trying to get from Mendoza to El Calafate, then to Ushuaia. I can fly, but really I'm up for the adventure. I thought about renting a car and driving depending on cost and distance, b/c I really wouldn't mind seeing all the little towns along the way.

Challenge is that I have to book flights NOW if I'm going to to it b/c we leave for argentina in 2 weeks and to qualify for the LAN Airpass you have to book 2 weeks in advance before arriving in the country.

Has anyone made that trek? Any advice? Suggestions, preferences, etc? There are 2 of us.

Hi, you really should ask some informations about the one way drop off fee.
I intended to drive from Peninsula valdes to El Calafate and had to pay hundreds of dollars drop off fee !!

Perhaps make your trip an adventure by travelling by (night) bus on some parts of your itinerary.

Hi...I'm back from El Calafate and Torres del paine...From El Calafate to Puerto Natales,2 buses daily can drive (it's long but sure and confortable) From <pn to Torres del paine, the best way is to have a tour, because the park is very large and you have to drive it in the right way, and the roads are not well indicated so its difficult to find the good way...But its WONDERFUL...
