Meeting my Mum in NYC. Where is a good place to stay?
Posted: Sun January 28, 2007 11:23 PM UTC
Dear All,

My Mum is arriving from the UK on a Friday in March at about 1:30pm into Newark and I'll be getting into La Guardia at about 10:15pm on the same. We are going to visit NYC for the weekend, possibly leaving from JFK to Houston on Sunday afternoon.

Can anyone recommend a good mid-priced hotel in a safe area where I can meet my Mum. She will be in NYC for 9 or 10 hours before I get there, so it would be good if the hotel is in easy reach of something interesting for her to do.

Thanks, Martin.

We stayed at the historic Warwick, which is right across the street from the Museum of Modern Art. Tons of shopping nearby as well. The hotel is right in midtown and it's a very safe area. Small grocery store down the block for coffee and snacks. Try to get a deal on Expedia:

I have stayed at the Ramada Inn on Lexington and 32nd and it is a nice, clean, not too expensive ($170-190 depending) hotel. It is walking distance from the 5th Avenue and the Empite State building.

I would not advise you to go for cheaper hotels, especially because many of them have shared bathrooms.

Hope you have a pleasant stay in NYC!

The most frequently recommended midtown budget hotels are the Salisbury, Belvedere, Radio City Apts., Novotel, Edison. Before you book, be sure to read the reviews on tripadvisor.com. Some also have posted Candid Traveler Photos.

There are also a few at the very bottom of the list, to be avoided. These are the Carter, Pennsylvania, New Yorker.
