| Petra | Jerash Posted: Sun January 28, 2007 06:42 PM UTC
I am arriving at 0855 sharp at the airport and wants to go first to Jerash and spend few hours there and head to Petra afterwards maybe catching a late road trip via bus and stays there for two days. I am concerned about the restricted time travelling to and from Jerash and catching the bus to Petra in either JETT bus or at Wahedat Station. Any recommendations on how I can do this in the best possible way without wasting even a valubale minute? Many thanks in advance.
By the way, from Jerash, which bus or what shall I do to go back to the city to catch a bus to Petra? Thanks again. |

Hello,
I think you might be bit pressed for time. I did the reverse trip with a rental car, i.e. leave Petra at about 10, drive to Jerash and then go back to Amman for the night in a hotel. I arrived at the hotel at around 6 pm. But that was with a rental car. By the time you clear immigration and have your luggage it will be 10 am. Then you would have to : - take a taxi to Amman from the airport - take a bus to Jerash - after visiting Jerash take a bus back to Amman - then (find and) take a bus to Petra Even if this is possible I doubt you would find it very enjoyable. JETT bus doesn't go to Petra any longer, so you only have the minibuses from the Wahedat station and/or service taxis from there also.
I agree the timing is going to be tight, especially since buses and service taxis are not frequent towards the end of the day, but you should manage to get to Petra, even if it's around 9 or 10pm. You should hope fervently that the bus you take for Jerash is ready to leave and doesn't wait an hour to fill up! Certainly I doubt if you will be in Jerash before midday, and you should look for a bus back to Amman by 3pm at the very latest, in fact 2pm would be better. You might consider changing your mind about this plan.... Lulu

First, there are mini buses from Abdullah bus station and easy as pie to get to and from Jerash. There is only a direct bus to Petra from Amman so you will have to ask the bus companies. If you plan on going to Petra but stopping along the way be warned that mini buses are hard to come by ex times and frequency.

I presume that JohnniOmani means the Abdali bus station ? Certainly it is very easy to get to Jerash, the only problem is that the buses tend to wait until they are full or nearly so. Sometimes this means an hour or more.
Minibus to Petra go, as I said, from the Wahedat bus station which is pretty nearly at the other end of Amman from the Abdali which serves the towns in the north. Lulu
