| Pompeii | Confused about the train rates...... Posted: Sat January 27, 2007 11:10 PM UTC
I have gone to the train website to check on rates. 2,20 euros is how much USD? All the posts say the fare is very reasonable. My calculations say $283. I must not be doing something correctly. Help!!!

Here's a currency converter. http://www.xe.com/ucc/
2,20 euro should be $2.83 USD. That's incredibly cheap.

Deanne, maybe what's confusing you is the European notation. When writing numbers, most European countries use a comma for the decimal separator while the US, England, Australia, etc. use a decimal point (or a period).
So the number 2 1/3rd = 2.333 in the US, but 2,333 Europe. Sometimes Europeans use spaces to separate thousands and millions, sometimes they use points (periods). One million and one-tenth: US 1,000,000.1 Europe 1 000 000,1 or 1.000.000,1 Confusing, isn't it? There are probably other notations, too.
