not that I plan on going to Kerguelen anytime before I die, but out of curiousity, anyone know how to get there if your a tourist type person as compared to a scientest type person? Just wondering.

Actually I've wanted to go there for years. The only way is a two or three week boat ride (slow boat to China LOL) from Reunion

As the island are french antarctica territory you´ve book a passage on the the french exploration and soporting vessel "Marion Dufresne". Look at the pages of the www.kerguelen.com
