| Austin | Outdoor activities in Austin? Posted: Sat January 27, 2007 04:20 PM UTC
My wife and I are considering moving to Austin from the Northeast. We are growing tired of the Northeast winters; it is currently 14 degrees and overcast here!!!
My wife's gradmother lived in Austin, but I have only visited there once for a couple of days. We are in our mid 30's and we are very active; we love to hike, kayak, run, etc. and we are wondering what the Austin area has to offer in this regard. Thanks, Mike |

Howdy,
Austin is full of outdoor activities like you mentioned. Plenty of rowing and kayaking on town lake, and in the rivers in the central Texas area. Austin also has plenty of hike and bike trails. All around the state we have plenty of state parks where there is some great hiking. Marc

Austin is called "the city inside a park" for good reason. There are several Greenbelts with miles of hiking. Biking is very big in Austin as there are many off road and road biking opportunities. There is Town Lake right by downtown with Kayak rentals and rowing clubs. City Park on Lake Austin is a great place to put in for rowing. The weather is wonderful for outdoor sports and when it gets too warm there are plenty of surrounding lakes and natural springs in and around the area.
Blue skies!
