Schloß Herrenchiemsee Salzburg-Herrenchiemsee=Munich by rail
Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 10:32 AM UTC
If we leave Salzburg on Saturday October 20, 2007, early in the morning by rail to Rosenheim,
(1) can we leave suitcases at Rosenheim station or somewhere nearby
(2) how do we travel from Rosenheim rail station to Herrenchiemsee and how long does it take
(3) will there be enough time to see the Castle properly doing this on one day
(4) what time are the last trains from Rosenheim to Munich ?

Many thanks for any information.

Rosenheim station has lockers. Prien not.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Salzburg
To: Rosenheim
To: Prien
To: Herreninsel

Prien is the stop at the main line closest to Herrenchiemsee.
From there you can walk to Stock, the harbour of Prien. 1,8 km.
The Chiemseebahn (a cute steam railway) serving this route won't run in October.
But it's of course a walkable distance.
Herreninsel is the island Herrenchiemsee New Palace is on. The boats run all year. But the boat schedule is yet only till May or so available in the DB timetable.
