Adelaide SIR Visa - Do i need to bring my family with me?
Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 07:37 AM UTC
I am also in the process of applying for SIR Visa with SA/Adelaide, but I am quite confused, I don't know if I have to bring my family with me or not...I understand that SIR Visa is not entitled with all the Government Supports, we have to live there on our own, and start a new life without nothing, I now have a feeling of being a stranger...Please I need some good advice on whether to bring my family with me or not....I also need to find locations of Filipino communities in Adelaide, If you know someone please introduce me to him/her. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Fernan

Hi Fernan,
I hope you are successful with your visa for SA/Adelaide. It is a great place to live!
You do not have to bring your family with you but of course they are entitled under this visa to come with you and work or study also. Many SIR visa holders come out on their own to begin with and get settled in their job, find a place to live etc and then fly their family over later.
The Migrant Resource Centre of SA are set up to help migrants get settled. They can help you with all you need to know before and after you arrive. Their website is: www.users.bigpond/mrcsa
another good website is: www.immigration.sa.gov.au
You will be happy to know that the filipino community in South Australia (mainly Adelaide) number over 5000. Check out this website: www.hennessyinfolink.com.au/filipino_community.htm
You could also try the Filipino Settlement Coordinating Council of SA Inc contact Aida Tita F Garcia (Chairperson) agarcia@ozemail.com.au

This whole process must seem overwhelming but there is lots of support here in South Australia for you. Hopefully the above contacts will help.
Cheers,
Danielle

Thank you so much for such information, I appreciate it alot...I think I am beggining to get excited to be in Adelaide...The information pack that I have received from Fresh Start SA is also a big tool for me to decide where to settle, Honestly I also applied for STNI Sponsorship Visa with ACT, although STNI Visa is a better Visa than SIR primarily due to Government Support, I couldn't help myself but consider SIR the same way I consider STNI Visa...
I don't have any idea with both States but only bare facts from thier website, and I thank you all guys for sharing such ideas...I would like to commed VT as the number one informative forum of the entire internet world!!!

By your family do you mean wife and children or other family members? I don,t think you would be entitled to bring brothers, sister or parents with you, but you do need to contact someone in authority and find out exactly where you stand, it would be an expensive mistake if people came here assuming they could stay and were not allowed to.

OK, what I mean is my immediate family member, my wife and my children...I don't know how long will it take for me to get a job in SA, I also dont know much on the climate in SA, we are not used to cold environment and I am just afraid that my children would aquire normal sickness due to cold climate and we are not entitked for medicare and hospitalization benifits with SIR...But we should be ready for all these circumstances prior to our decision of making the move for SA, I just couldn't help myself but to have a second thought.

Thank you so much for your time...
