hey there again ,
there are few options for you in izmir ( you can still use the guide i recommend you for ephesus)
*izmir archeological museum (located in konak )
* old smyrna ancient city ( located in bayrakli)
*agora (located in ikicesmelik )
*country break : you can go to foca (it takes an hour from izmir) and try amazing sea food with our traditional drink raki...its best place in izmir area. you also have a chance to see adopted mediterranean seal in there. his name is badem -means almond in english- and only few months old very very cute ! check out my izmir-foca page

enjoy aegean coasts !

I think that suggestions made by the other member are perfect. As suggested, izmir archeological museum, old smyrna, agora and country break in foca is nice set of sites. Perhaps not as an alternative, but as a supplement, I can suggest Balcova Thermal Spa- the leading spa of Turkey with hot springs and its Aqua City Section ( the water park. Balcova spa is located at the outskirts of Izmir. Since I am one of teh adherents of thermal and spa in Izmir, I just wanted to mention Balcova Spa.
In my opinion Foca is more charming than Cesme, but the last-named attracts also many. So some like Foca some like Cesme.
Izmir offers a lot of nature, history and city life. One idea would be to take a day trip to Karaburun on the edge of Karaburun peninsula or such cosy places as Urla-harbour and Cesmealti. There you also have a good possibility to enjoy fish and raki.
I have a great belief in Izmir so I am sure that you will enjoy yourself in Izmir-area.
