Saint Lucia groceries

we will be staying in a villa in the Cap Estate area just past Rodney Bay. where is the best grocery store to stock up between the airport and the villa? There must be a cheaper one on the way that the locals use. Certainly anything in Rodney Bay will be more expensive.

We went to the supermarket in Rodney Bay and it wasn't that expensive. I think it was called Super J. There were two in Rodney Bay. They had a good selection of food from the US and the UK.

Yep Super Js is the main supermarket chain in the north of St. Lucia. Prices tend to be the lowest for most items at that chain. And there are 2 branches at Rodney bay.

we will be in Marigot Bay in August and love to shop local and cook rather than get mediocre food at the restaurants. Where should we shop?

It may be better to get a taxi to the Super J in Rodney Bay. I don't remember any large markets in Marigot. You can get fresh fish when the counch shell is blown. You can hear it if you are in the area.

Super J is the monopoly supermarket in St.Lucia. There is one chain basically and it's SUPER J. In town, you may try Dilly's Supermarket which is near the main bus station in Castries (the capital). Also in the north of the island along the Gros Islet Hgwy in Marisule is Glace Motors Supermarket. This location also has a gas station. Glace Motors has 2 other supermarkets. These 2 are located a street apart (Gros Islet Hgwy apart). One is located in the Rodney Bay Marina and the other is across the highway, a lil' drive in off the road. You will see it once you make the turn.

Good Luck and Happy Shopping!

PS. Don't forget to buy local ... Piton beer, Bounty Rum, Chairman's Reserve & all the Baron Sauces
