It's not that extreme and if you're in good shape (don't need to be an Olympian) you'll be fine...

Good luck

Most people don't have a problem. Some people complain about the air bothering them from being too dry. The sun is strong here though, so plan to use an umbrella if you have fair skin.

If you plan on visiting anything in the mountains you might get bus sick. The public busses to many mountain villages have exhaust problems, and I know many who get sick from it. You can rent your own private driver though, or take a smaller minibus to most places. The minibusses are scattered around town depending on where you want to go.

It's not really so high - about 2400 metres. However be careful about visiting Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - there are three different cable car stations. The first one goes very high - 4500m and that can really hurt. Also there is not much to do there, except stagger about and go down again. The second is lower, and there are shops and restaurants at the top.

In Lijiang itself, before you set off, for about 40RMByou can purchase aerosol cans of oxygen in case you get into difficulty. There is a 10RMB refund on returns, so don't just throw it away. (You can also hire extra warm clothes - you will need them!)

By the way, the first cable car bast station (at 3100m) is also the location for the Impressions spectacle.
