Yunnan Sheng bargain in departmental stores
Posted: Fri January 19, 2007 02:24 AM UTC
I've heard that one could bargain in chinese departmental stores, I was sceptical. I found out that was not the case when I visited Carrefour (Jia Le fook, in chinese) situated near the famous street which specialised in bulk goods in Kunming, Yunnan. There were discounts for the jackets, but no bargaining. I am not sure if I could bargain in other stores. Anybody can explain?

No for department stores. Other stores perhsps but dependes on the area and what they are selling, ie electronics perhaps yes. Street market stores usually. Why don't you just hang about and see if the locals or anyone else bargains.

Do not be the first customer of the day and buy nothing or you, your parents and your grandparents will be cursed.

No bargaining in department stores. Isn't it nice to have fixed prices?!

Yes, I agree with ellyse. If there was bargaining the department stores would increase their prices to allow for the fact that there is bargaining. If you do not like the price you do not have to buy and if the price is too high they will not make sales.
