I want to be in HVAR around june 07. now that Croatia is a E.E.C member will prices be in Euros? and every thing more expensive?. the exchange rate for aussy dollars means our dollar is only worth half a euro. what will that buy? half a cup of coffee? rooms seem to be around 15 euros a night.what about food and drinks?

No, Croatia won't be a member of the EU for a while yet, and everything is paid for in kuna. Food and drink are moderately priced, compared to Western Europe. Hvar is beautiful! Enjoy...

Guess you've confused us with out neighbour, Slovenia (EU member, also in Eurozone with euro as currency).

Prices depend of the place, some hype cocktail bars can be quite pricy, but there are affordable places as already said.

ask anyone in Croatia about after they go on the euro and the answer is pretty universal.(pretty funny too) We did not go to Hvar, but we did spend time in Krk, Vela Luka, and Orebic. All highly recommended. And we were comparing to the US dollar as opposed to the Australian dollar, but we found it very inexpensive compared to our other travels.

We were traveling off season, end of september and early October. A nice room in private place cost us about $45 US a night and eating and drinking....cheap I thought. In 11 days in the country doing everything we wanted to do and eating and drinking to our hearts content cost us about 2200 USD. (and we travelled around a good bit)that includes a rental car and gas. On a budget you could do even better.

I always found Croatia prices not cheap but good value all the same. Greece pre EU membership - that was a good 20+ years ago.

I was in Hvar in june 2006. The drinks were quite expensive most places but the food was not. Especially if you choose the local fish and seafood. We had a delicious pata dish with seafood for about 5 euros and it was a huge serving.

We paid between 7 and 10 euro pr drink, but again if you choose the local beer and drinks it is much cheaper.

The ice ceram is like the italians and is very cheap (less than a euro for one big scop).Yummy...

Hvar was more expensive than any other place we went in Croatia but it was worth it. The food was better ( we had the best steaks ever!)and the island is beautiful.

Enjoy your trip:-)

You can find private accomodation from 40 E. Drinks are expensive if you drink at fancy bars (beer - 7 E), but local bars have cheap prices (2 - 3 E beer)
Food - excellent. All fish is fresh and caught around Hvar the previous day.
Try it!
