Yes, it IS possible! We just returned from a short week in Cagliari and we did a daytrip to Barumini. There is a 2 p.m. bus directly to Barumini, which takes about 1 1/2 hours. From the bus stop it is only a 10 minute walk to the Nuraghe and you will be able to make the 3.30 h or 4 p.m. guided tour. At 6 p.m. you will have to take a bus from Barumini to Sanluri Stato (takes about 1 hour) and from there the 7.15 p.m. train to Cagliari, which gets you there by 8 p.m. It is absolutely worthwhile to visit Barumini, don't miss it!
