Hi All I will be getting the train from Sofia to Plovdiv and plan to get a bus up to Pamporovo. Can you tell me are the trains fast and reliable and can I get the bus from the train station in Plovdiv. Looking forward to my 1st trip to Bulgaria as I hear the people are so friendly and welcoming . Greetings from Ireland

i think pamporovo is still not on the vt list of destinnations. if you do a keyword search some links to some vt members pages that have something on pamporovo schould come up and some links to other post about pamporovo way come up.

Greetings from across the Irish Sea from Wales!
Take a look at mybulgaria.info - somebody on that site will surely know the answer to your travel query. Interesting site for Bulgaria. Cheers Glasfryn

I was in Bulgaria in September. Although I didn't go to the town you mentioned (my route was Sofia to Velinko Turnova--a lovely place--to Plovidiv) we were told when researching the trip that buses were definitely the way to go, and that there were some 'issues' with trains. That said, there are quite a few Bulgarian VTers around, who are really helpful, so it may help to email them directly if they don't end up seeing this post.
Have fun!

Hi. I've been to pamporovo recently, because I am working as a property agent in that area as well. So my advice is, if you don't have something particular to do in Plovdiv, you'd better take the direct bus from sofia to pamporovo. the buses leave from sofia at 8, 12, 13, 16 and 18.00 o'clock. the price is 16 leva per one direction. Pamporovo is very nice place with picturesque views. The only problem now is the warm weather, bad season for the tourist operators i Think haha :) Have a nice stay!

Hallo Rich,
I'm a Bulgarian and I just saw your enquiry on the net. Even though Plovdiv is a very ancient city and it's very interesting to see I advise you to get a bus from the central bus station in Sofia.Anyway, trains in Bulgaria are not very pleasant and on the other hand they are very slow. So, the english version of the central bus station's web site is http://www.centralnaavtogara.bg/cbs/home.nsf/vPage The direct access page of the bus schedulle to Pamporovo is http://213.240.239.190/guide/searchQuickResultDepa Click on the links I provided and find the buses running 4 times a day: 8am: 12, 13,16,18 h pm. Companies are also listed. You should just find the company's office in the hall and buy a ticket. Transfer from Sofia airport Terminal One is by city bus number 84 and bus No 284 from T2.Anyway you'll be arriving most likely to T1 if you come by British Airways. If you get a cab be careful, there are still companies that cheat. See for "OK Taxi".Calling number 1281 must be shown on the car's door. You should'n be charged more that 10 bulgarian leva which is 5 euro to Sofia Central Bus Station.remember that. The regular city bus costs 35 EURO CENTS.You decide what you get:)) In case you get the city bus it will bring you only to center city sofia and the Station is 2 miles away. But anyway you could get a can from center city. Go to Plovdiv if you have time after that. You won't be sorry.Don't go directly from Sofia.
