Skipton COST OF LUNCH
Posted: Sun January 14, 2007 08:49 PM UTC
I've looked at the Bolton Abbey homepage and the various restaurants and cafes nearby, but would like to know what to expect for prices for budget-conscious traveler for a light lunch. Have any idea? Thanks. Judy

Bolton Abbey is still on my "to do" list in Yorkshire but if you search for it here on VT, you get many pages by people who have been so they should know what cafes and restaurants are around.

I can only speak for Yorkshire in general where you can find a Sunday dinner in a pub for five pounds but where a cosy tea room with scones might set you back ten pounds just for tea and cakes so it all depends on what's available at Bolton Abbey which is just the thing I don't know. Sometimes places like that have their own "tourist trap" restaurants of course.

Skipton RE: COST OF LUNCH - Thanks

Thanks. I'm new here and will take your advice and look around at the Skipton posts. I'd always rather spend my travel money on admissions to historical sites and inexpensive B&Bs than on food or fancy accommodations. If all else fails, I know TESCO has bread and cheese cheap. The Dales are the most beautiful place, but we've never been to the Skipton area before. I'm really looking forward to visiting there! Thanks again.

VT member sandysmith has a Bolton Bridge page so she's someone I know should have knowledge.

I just realised that I remember someone talking about this place as being quite famous in the area too:

Not that the Brasserie page seems to have a menu...sigh.

Ben_UK is another expert on the Dales. Look at his North Yorkshire page I think.

I do not think there is a Tesco in the area - there is a large Morrisons in Skipton. If the trains are running on the Yorkshire Dales Railway the station cafe will be open at Bolton Abbey - we had lunch here a few years ago and although I cannot remember the prices I do seem to think the prices were reasonable. Have a look at their website - www.embsayboltonabbeyrailway.org.uk/
