I do not have any idea about Flight , but for sure there should be something for a good price.! But better than Bus will be a Taxi. Just call a private company and have them to sent you a taxi, them you just negociate with the driver. Is secure and better that the normal street taxi drivers.!
But for sure I will prefer to take a flight.! Take a look into www.aeropostal.ve or www.conviasa.ve - Take care of your self there.! =)

Safety takes precaution. Whichever means of transportation you decide to get on, you must be aware.
There are "expresos", express buses driven by private chauffeurs usually belonging to a company dedicated to transportation services. Their offices are usually found at Terminales. The advantage of these is that you are traveling along with some other people, in case an emergency should arise. They follow a certain route and make a few stops along the road. Besides, your boarding is recorded; buses are usually kept "in good shape". A private taxi is faster, and more flexible since you can stop by the road anytime you want. Although, it would be a little more dangerous since you would be traveling on a smaller car, easier to hijack or to be crashed (if this is what you fear). By ship, actually I haven't known of any maritime transport service of this kind in that zone. However, they must exist. Anyway, just be aware. Put on your safety belt, make sure your driver is wide awake on the road, avoid much stopping (buy most of what you need before leaving) and enjoy your trip.

There are several options to go Cumana. You can take an airplane which cost you about 170 US$, by bus from the Bus Station of the Company Rodovias located in the subway station "Colegios de Ingenieros" in Caracas. This bus ticket costs about 30 US$ or so. In addition, you can take a Taxi to go to Cumana. This option would cost you between 140-170 US$ one way from Caracas.
There are several options to take a Taxi. My favourite one is www.taxiwin.com, a service that allows you booking your taxi online while chatting live with an employee of the company. If you arrange your taxi plan with this company, they will arrange everything for you even picking you up at the airport. This is quite safe and of course costs money.
