| Caparica | Dive Shops and Dive Conditions in Setubal Posted: Thu January 11, 2007 06:02 PM UTC
I am a travel agent with clients going to Portugal. They'd like to dive in the Setubal area - advanced divers, would like reef, wreck and cavern/cave dives. Is this a good place to do it? Can you tell me what types of dives are available, water temp in June, clarity, etc.? Many thanks. Carol Zimring, Plaza Travel, Encino (Los Angeles). Thanks.

I'm not a diver, but I can tell you that Setúbal has a reputation of being a good place for diving. Portinho da Arrábida and Alportuche, just outside the city are the best places, and have divers all year round.

Hi!
Setúbal is a good "base" to do all those things. For good beaches, they'll have to go to Portinho da Arrábida, Praia da Figueirinha, among other beaches. Other great place for touristic purposes is Sesimbra, it's near Setúbal. Arrábida Mountains has those beaches mentioned above and it's one of the most beautiful places in portugal! Believe! That reagion is good for diving, etc. In setúbal ask for information to see dolphins. In June Portugal is already hot, VERY HOT! The water temp will be around 18ºC (remember, it's atlantic ocean). Setúbal, itself, it's not a particular exciting tourist point! It's a functional city. Take them to see Sesimbra (it's great). Palmela has a great castle with great views. You can also take them to Tróia peninsula. There are the beautiful desert beaches! It's great!
