A few of my friends and I planning to visit Queenstown sometimes between 29 Jan 07 - 2 Feb 07. It will be a "pit stop" for us as we are going for "racing" (drifting) at Timaru on the 26/27 Jan and Invercargill 3rd Feb. So, anyone keen to catch up etc or know a good place to stay please let me know. We looking for some maybe cabin or good camping ground. Cheers

The only two camping grounds I know of in Queenstown are at www.top10.co.nz and www.kiwiholidayparks.com.

The Top 10 one is very central, easy walking distance to town. Think you'd have to book either at this time of the year.

If you're looking for free camping there's a few places on the road from Queenstown towards Glenorchy, there's Wilson's Bay which has a drop toilet and there's a campsite called 9 mile (or is it 10?) a bit furthur down the road, it's lovely here, you're right next to the lake.
I worked for 5 months down this stretch of road, amazing it was, take a swim in the lake at Wilson's Bay, it's shallower near the trees to the left so warmer, and there's a lovely walk if you keep on going.

Thank you for the replies.. I'll look into them. Yeah, the racing has already cost us alot so we just trying to find cheap/free place to stay.. just hope it doesn't rain as it going to ruin our camping.
The holiday park sounds good too!

Thanks again
