Hi
You will love your stay on Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Yes it is possible to swim in the ocean. Rapa Nui has one beautiful sandy beach at Anakena, even with some palm trees; that is about 15 km's away from Hanga Roa, the only village on the island. Close to the village is a smaller beach (Pea Beach)where you will meet more locals. Just north of Hanga Roa is a sea water swimming pool called Hanga Vare. Don't know your hotels (we stayed in a B&B - Residencial Tahai), but all the hotels and residencials are in Hanga Roa and everything here is on walkable distance. Staying 7 days on Rapa Nui I highly recommend you to take at least 1 or better 2 guided tours. We were very satisfied with our guide Patricio from AO Tour. See for more info and pics on my Easter Island page. Happy travels Jaap

You can swim in Anakena. The place is gorgeous and also has Moais. Return taxi costs 12.000 pesos (24 dollars) from Hanga Roa and you can set your return time and they come to pick you up.
