Victoria Falls Looking for some tourist info
Posted: Tue January 9, 2007 02:05 PM UTC
Hi, I want to know how much is the distance from Bulawayo to Vic Falls and what is the cheapest way to get to Bullawayo from Mesina Border Gate. Is there any train from Border to Bullawayo? if is than what are the timings and fares? and what currency would be better to change within Zimbabwe and Zambia US$ or SA Rands and where would be best to exchange the money (at border or over there)? And is there any train for Vic Falls or Livingstone from Bullawayo?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, there used to be a sleeper train from Bullawayo to Vic Falls. It is one that has been left over from the days when Zim was an English colony. Greyhound busses also travel between Bullawayo and the border.
My suggestion regarding currency is to bring rands or US$'s and change them in Zim. The offical rate is $28:R1, where as the street rate is $400:R1. Also don't get caught with Zim currency - it devalues on a daily basis. Change as much as you need and nothing else. You may find that you will be able to transact in hard currency, but sometimes you will get the "local" rate if you use the Zim currency.
Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for information. Greyhound is only operating till Bullawayo as they told me here in Bloemfontein. But I am going to write there Johannesburg office now to get more info if they are going directly to Falls. Are the street money changers ligal? And easily found? And if the Bullawayo safe place to roam comparing to SA cities?
