Hi,

Am having all kinds of problems!
The new non-smoking law means that I have had to cancel all of my previous reservations.

Now I am searching for a small flat or B&B that permit smoking.

Got an answer from one that looks promising.

Questions:
1. Re the neighbourhood - Is Burchgracht a safe street for a mature woman travelling solo? I will want to go out in the evening for dinner...

2. I am told that it is: "Just 1 minute from the grote markt, the central place of the old town with his city-hall." Would that be an accurate assessment?

Can anyone recommend a place that they have stayed?

The new smoking laws have nothing to do with smoking or non-smoking in B&B or hotels. They are meant for restaurants.

Burchtgracht is now a good place. You are indeed very near the Grote Markt and Het Steen (Het steen is the castle and burchtgracht means the water around the castle; that is where it once used to be). They are all just a jump away and you are close to the Butcher's house. The water of the former burchtgracht used to pass underneath a part of it (you can notice as the road goes downwards if you walk towards the river).

Restaurants are plenty... smokefree :)
