El Calafate Travel Forum

Hello,

Me and my husband is about to travel to Argentina on Feb 07 for 3 weeks, and I am trying to assemble a course.
We have desided to visit Buenos Aires for 3 days and than take a flight to the south- Calafate area. than we would like to continue by bus to Bariloche area.
Than we will rent a car at Esquel area ,travel to the north, return the car at Zapala area, where there is an airport and we can tack a flight to Igwaso.
My qustion - is this sound logic? is there a bus from Calafate to esquel, how many houres by car ? Thanks

There is indirect service from El Calafate to both Bariloche and Esquel via Rio Gallegos. To Bariloche it is about a 40 hour ride, and Esquel is another 300 kms further. As for flying from Zapala to Iguazu not sure that any airline serves Zapala, maybe LADE. Regardless to get to the falls you will need to return to Buenos Aires and fly either Aerolíneas Argentinas or LAN to the falls. You might consider returning the car in Mendoza or back in Bariloche where you can get frequent flights back to Buenos Aires. You might want to check the Aerolíneas Argentinas web page, they offer an Air Pass that might save you some money on your internal flights, LAN also offers a pass but not sure where you are arriving from because LAN has some restrictions.

I appriciate your assistance.
Due to the fact it takes too many hours by bus from Calafate to Esquel I guess we will consider flights only.
Beacuse we are planning geting back to Tel Aviv from Brazil, we can not use the Pass alternative.could you kindly advise if we should book flights from tel aviv in advance, or it may be cheaper at Argentina? Is there a chance that will not be availble seats?

Feb is still a very busy travel season so yes, you might want to book your flights ahead of time.
