| Darwin | Need advice : car rental, accommodation & attractions Posted: Sun January 7, 2007 01:27 PM UTC
Hi! Am planning a 10-day trip to Darwin with a family of 8 (from 2 yrs to 62 yrs old!) in late May. Have a few questions to ask:
1) The flight I intended to book will land in Darwin at 2.30am. Is it possible to get a rented car at that timing? Any car rental company to recommend? 2) Would like to book an apartment with cooking facilities as my mum is a vegetarian. Any recommendations? 3) Saw a few advices on Darwin's attractions :) Besides Darwin, any nearby places (like Kakadu or Katherine?) to visit? Preferably family friendly places. Appreciate your advice! The crocodile cruise is always good the crocs are so big and to see them jump out of the water. There are quiet a few travel agents in the main street I suggest you grab a brochure and have a look. The roads out to Kakadu or Litchfield Park are very good so no problems with driving. Litchfield Park is a beautiful park the differnce between this park and Kakadu is you can swim in some of the water holes. Have a look at my pages on Darwin. I cant think off the top of my head if the apartments we stayed at are on my page Asti Apartments I think, nothing flash but we had a kitchen there is a pool send them an email they were pretty helpfule when we used them.

As an introduction to Australian wildlife, for the kids especially, you might take them to the very good zoo, so at least they can learn about what they'll be looking for when they get out in the wilder areas like Kakadu. The zoo has an exciting raptor show that's presented several times (or is it once?) a day -- look for the times online. There also a tram that runs between the areas, so you won't have to push the 2-year-old's stroller long distances.
