Lake District National Park RE: Staying In Braithwaite

Braithwaite is a very small village on the outskirts of Keswick. It has a couple of pubs, a nice village shop and a campsite. It will take you about 20 minutes to walk to keswick, and there are buses that are fairly regular. It'll still be pretty quiet as the tourists only start coming at Easter, although weekends at any time of the year are fairly busy. Hope this is of some help.

Braithwaite is pretty village, close to good walking and close to Bassenthwaite Lake - famous for its osprey's although they dont arrive until Mid April. There is a nice pub in village. If you fancied something special there is the Pheasant Inn, about 5 mins drive - lovely old inn with really good food (approx £35 per head in the evening). Turn left onto the A66 towards Cockermouth. When you reach the end of the dual carriageway turn left and it is just 100 yards. It is signposted and they have a good website. Cockermouth is also a nice market town if you wanted to see something different. Good bistro there called the Front Room, 2 Market Place - open Thurs-Sun Evenings only - 01900 826655. Nice easy walk along the quiet northern shore of Bass Lake starting at Dubwath. Morrells in Keswick is a good restaurant. (Can you tell we are foodies!)
