Shanghai Cruise and other questions
Posted: Sat January 6, 2007 02:55 AM UTC
Hi all,

It's my first trip to Shanghai and I was wondering if the cruise is recommended.
How much do i need to pay and how do I go about buying tickets?
I'm thinking of buying a sim card(that I only need for this trip) the first thing I touch down. I will be staying in the bund area. Where can I buy the sim card from and how much will it cost?

SIM cards (china mobile) are around 50 rmb and include minites. I got mine in in a shop in town. I am told you can also get them at the airport.

Do you need the SIM card to be useable nation-wide, or just in Shanghai?
I've been helping travellers to buy Shen Zhou Xing (China Mobile, useable nation-wide) cards and the most recent ones I've bought cost anything between 80-100 RMB and include 50 RMB of credit.
There's a China Mobile shop on Nanjing Donglu, beside the Peace Hotel, near the Bund.

What cruise is this? Does it go to far away places or just an hour along the Huang Pu Jiang? For the latter, I have not gone but it seems to have the ideal view of the two banks of the river. One hour boat rides start at 25 Yuan. Buy tickets at the boat docks along the left bank. Some hotels sell tickets but I hear the price will be higher.

Be sure your mobile phone is unlocked and has 900 MHz. If it's a 4 band model, you have it.
