| Ancona | Trains from Nice to Pisa and from Ancona to Venice Posted: Thu January 4, 2007 04:39 PM UTC
We are two students flying into Nice hopefully travelling by train to Pisa, where we intend to rent a car and travel around Italy. We are going to catch the ferry to Greece, returning to Ancona and then back on to Venice to our flight hme by train.
I have spent all day trying to get a price or timetable, both would be great. Anyone got any ideas? |

1) Nice to Pisa by train requires changing in Genova and in some cases also in Ventimiglia, so you might want to consider hiring the car before you get to Pisa. Sample timing (weekday):
Dep. Nice Ville 10:05 arr. Genova Piazza Principe 13:06 (compulsory reservation) Dep. Genova Piazza Principe 14:52 Arr. Pisa Centrale 16:57 (ditto) Other times from http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en but this won't give you prices, you may be able to get these from the French Railways website, as you will be starting your journey with them (or you may have to phone a SNCF office for international fares), try http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvHomePage?_C 2) You can get a direct train from Ancona to Venezia Mestre, where you can catch the bus to Marco Polo airport, e.g. at 10:20 arr. 14:35, at other times (11.16, 12.10..) you would have to change in Bologna. A standard ticket costs about 40 EUR but you would have to choose a specific train and type of ticket from the possibilities given on http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. 3) I wasn't certain whether you were also asking about price and timetable for the ferry, as it isn't mentioned in the title I assume not.

Sorry that was 10:20 arr. 14:26 in Mestre, I think I put in the time for S. Lucia but you don't have to go into Venice proper to come out again (unless of course you want to - in which case you can catch the airport bus from Piazzale Roma, across the Grand Canal from the railway station).
