| Chongqing | Train tickets from Xian to Chongqing Posted: Wed January 3, 2007 11:41 AM UTC
I understand the train from Xian to Chongqing, originates from Lhasa.
Is it difficult to get "soft sleepers" in the month of August? Is this train always full? Appreciate your replies. |

There are more than just that one train from Lhasa-Xi'an-Chongqing.
A few trains go to Chongqing from Xi'an as they are both major cities. If you crush into the school term break in the beginning of August, you may have some problems getting sleepers. Book early.

1) There're 3 trains going from Xi'an to Chongqing in all, the fastest of which is the one which originates in Lhasa. No, I don't think it's particularly difficult to get soft sleepers in August, it's not a particular peak travel period. However on the other hand, it's notoriously difficult to obtain onward train tickets from Xi'an, so be prepared to wait for a few days. Train 2334/2335/2337 might be your best bet (if not your only one) as it originates in Xi'an.
2) No one among us would really, I doubt anyone in this forum is a employee of the Chinese railway! BTW, the end of school semester would be in July, not August.

I was hoping to get sleepers on T221/T224 (originates from Lhasa) at least on the K15. Both allows me to arrive in Chongqing in good time for my onward bus journey to Dazu.
Being new and 1st trip to China, I would like to experience the T221/T224, can I still get 'soft sleepers' for a 4-days later departure. I am planning to stay 3 nights in Xian.
