Beijing Beijing to Chengde
Posted: Wed January 3, 2007 12:04 AM UTC
I have heard that there are three ways to travel from Beijing to Chengde.
1. By train
2. By bus
3. By Iveco
Does anyone know the preferred form of transportion to get there? I have heard that Iveco is good. Has anyone taken that method? Where do they leave from in Beijing? Thanks for the help.

Iveco? you meant hitch a ride with a transport truck?? last on my list as most truck drivers do not bath often. Likewise, long distance bus is an experience, they have double bunks (not seats but kind of a recliner bed, double deck), again very little personal space and mixture of body odor and galic makes a long trip fun! Also many hands in your backpack if you do manage to fall asleep.

Both of the above also have the added excitment of high speed and poor safety standards (most LD buses do not have a row cage design like the west so on impact they will not be able to tell you from the other 40 passengers)!

Trains definitely the safest and most predictable mode of transport (on schedule most of the time), you can get semi private bunk beds to private cabins, mind you their toilets are still holes on the floor....on a moving train!

I presume you should know that Iveco is the name of a particular model of minibus...?
I think going by "Iveco" means that you're hiring your own private vehicle (in this case, an Iveco minibus) with driver. Of course that would be the most time-flexible and convenient, if you could spare the money!
