Joining the US Army might be a good option.

Of course it's no doubt very much against all travel advice from State or any Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the world, but if you think you must do it, I believe Royal Air Jordanian operates a scheduled flight from Amman to Bagdad. Alternatively, it might be worth finding out whether it's possible to cross overland into Iraqi Kurdistan. Either way, I have no clue as to entry requirements.

Thank you, dutchwindmill...I am looking at the AMM/BGW flights - any and all other suggestions welcome. I am going through VTers Iraq tips section but there is nearly nothing on how to get there.
Again, thanks.

Probably need a visa (which might be able to be obtained at the boarder) probably cost about 1 USD. Military ID might help if you have that. Royal Joradnian is flying out of BIAP now too. And some craziness. Iraq police are corrupt and some Iraq army...and there's a crap load of checkpoints on any road. A little hint they are using mustard gas now over here in roadside bombs so if you see a convoy....head the other way.

Austrian Airlines flies to Iraq.
They've been flying there since December 11, 2006, and was the first Western airline to do so.
God bless the American troops, who brought down a terrorist dictator and brought on democratic elections.

RE: RE: RE: Getting To Iraq Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 03:00 AM UTC
greetings.
wouldn't advise going to baghdad/mosul/kirkuk w/o armed and armored military escorts. and you better be too.
but if you're looking to visit the kurdish north, you might want to try flying to Arbil or As Sulaymaniyah. there are flights from Vienna, Dubai, Amman and Tehran. i traveled into iraq from turkey at the silopi/habur border. you get an entry stamp at the border, your taxi driver should take care of all your paperwork. but if you're hoping to enter as the casual traveler, your chances of being admitted are slim, but not impossible. it'd be good to have some contacts. they (in the kurdish autonomous region) love americans so you'd have no problems there.
good luck!

RE: Getting To Iraq Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 09:13 AM UTC
i just returned fromn syria, where i meet my future wife and family (iraqis). Traveling by road from syria to Iraq is considered as very unsafe (even for iraqi). there are flights from damascus to baghdad, costing about 300 dollars one way. but dont forget that your journey ( and your problems) will not stop at the airport. you also have to stay somwhere, and that will be most likly one of the hotels used by foreigners, heavily guarded and expensive.....
i was working once in iraq, and still have friends there ( and of course my future wife is comming from there also). I would love to return one day, but i think there is no realistic hope to do that after waiting some years minimum. @tmaresh: please keeps politics out.....

Iraqi Airways is now back in service. They fly to and from Dubai. Another avenue is to fly into Kuwait. Getting a visa may take some time, but for the matter the visa is relatively cheap and your going to have to have a better reasoning to come here other than being a tourist.
You also might try some volunteer organizations; if you know Arabic language then you could come as an interpreter. Just some thoughts.... good luck getting in and good luck if you get in.

Why didn't you invade Latin America when dictators got to the power? Oh yes, it's true! CIA put them there.
