Acapulco Acapulco first timer
Posted: Tue January 2, 2007 04:26 AM UTC
My husband and I are going on a trip to Acapulco, specifically staying in the Mayan Palace in a couple weeks. Does anyone know what the weather is like this time of year (January). And are there a lot of people visiting at this time of year? We don't want it to be too busy, but we also don't want to be the only ones at the hotel. Has anyone ever stayed at the Mayan Palace there? We will be staying a week so we'll have lots of time to do things, any suggestions? We have been to Puerto Vallarta/Nuevo Vallarta and Ixtapa in the past few years during Spring Break time and are used to that kind of atmosphere. Is it similar in Acapulco? Are there any negative things we should be aware of there? Thank you.

The weather will be very nice; it doesn't change much throughout the year. Assume daytime temp. highs of about 85 and night lows of about 68. The Mayan Palace is located on the SE edge of Acapulco, a half-hour taxi ride (under the best conditions) from the city center. About the only things out near where you're staying are the facilities on your property, and at the adjacent Princess Resort property, and the long, ocean-front beach (oftentimes too rough to go into the water). Taking public transportation isn't much of an option, so you'll be using a taxi for trips around the area, and, from the Mayan Palace, expect to pay high taxi fares (because only certain, hotel-approved taxi's are allowed to operate from there). You won't be in ACA for Spring Break, so no need to worry about that. It'll still be the "high season" of tourism, and hotel occupancy will probably be in the 65% range overall in the city/area. Weekends are the busiest periods in Acapulco, because many Mexico City residents come over for the weekend. I can't think of anything to warn you about, other than not to engage in anything related to the drug trade - follow that advise and the trip should be wonderful. Enjoy!
