| Como | Flights and things to do Posted: Sat December 30, 2006 10:24 PM UTC Hi, My mother's just moved to Argegno, on the western shore of lake Como and of course I'm off to visit her next week. ;-) We want to spent some time in & around Argegno but also visit Como (a second time for me after a day trip from Milan 4 years ago). My fiance hasn't been there yet and I want to show him round. Apart from going on walks, we'd like to visit Gravedona in particular. Any other suggestions of must-see places? I know most villas are closed over the winter. Does anyone know whether the furnicular to Brunate is open? And I've seen Pigra mentioned, not too far from Argegno. What is there? As the boats seem to work frequently, except perhaps for Saturday 6th January, we intend to get a day pass & do some village hopping Thursday or Friday. One question I do have is if anyone has recently flown from Bergamo to the UK. Were you allowed wine in your cases (not hand luggage)? How strict are they at Bergamo airport? We brought some lovely vino home from our last few trips to Italy and would like to do so again. Thanks alot! Steph |

Congaratulations on having a base on Lake Como, I am very very jealous!!!
Anyway, the link below will give you the Como/Brunate finiculare timetable and as you will see it only runs a reduced service on Christmas Day. http://www.funicolarecomo.it/inglese/tariffe01.htm With regard to where else to visit, my personal favourite place in Italy is Varenna on the east shore and as you will see from my Varenna pages it is the place we go to every year to rest and recharge the batteries. I would also visit Bellagio which has a kind of fading elegance and if you are fond of fine wine here is link for a marvelous enoteca close to the ferry. http://www.cavaturacciolo.it/home.jsp In all honesty, wherever you go on the lake I am sure you won't be disappointed. With regard to Orio al Serio (Bergamo) airport, we did not encounter any problems returning to Glasgow last August with botttles of Sassella and Amarone in our suitcases. Buona Fortuna, Billy

| Como | RE: RE: Flights and things to do Posted: Sun December 31, 2006 02:03 PM UTC Billy, Thanks alot for your detailed reply. Had a look at your Varenna page and it looks lovely. It's on our list now as a definite! :-) As for the wine in the luggage - they were a bit picky following the November restrictions and sometimes seem to be overly keen! Will try it anyway... Counting down the hours now! Grazie mille, Steph
