They won't be cheap up in Sokcho and depending on when you arrive in Seoul, you will be looking for those items pretty quickly anyway. I hear it is already pretty cold in Korea right now and I doubt you are used to the temps they are experiencing right now. I suggests you try one of the markets such as Itaewon (go here for your gloves and socks), Namdaemun or Dongdaemun. I got really nice Gortex snow suits for my kids in Dngdaemun for about $50US so you can get that stuff pretty cheaply.

Thursday we had minus 20 degrees, yesterday we had minus 15 and this morning (right now) we have minus 11 degrees Celsius. So yes, it is darn freezing at the moment. Tomorrow temperatures are expected to go up to positive again but in the early morning and evening hours it's gonna continue to be freezingly cold.

Hence, I think olddude is right about saying that you need some warm gear already in Seoul. But don't worry, vendors can be found on literally every street corner and even in lots of subway stations. When I talk about vendors I mean those street vendors, selling their items from a cart. Kangnam, Itaewon, Namdaemun, Dongdaemun, Myeong-dong, ... no matter where you go you will find those vendors. Prices don't vary much and are quite reasonable but you should still try to bargain a little...

Cheers,
Robert
