Beijing Travel Forum

I am coming to Beijing in March, to work for 4 months at the Peking University Software School. It is located on Jinyuan Road in Daxing. I am familiar with the inner city of Beijing, but have never been to Daxing or anywhere in the southern suburbs. Is anyone familiar with the area? Are there supermarkets nearby that sell international food? Restaurants? Anything else of interest?

No. It's a remote region southeast of Beijing most famous for its watermelon museum and annual summer watermelon festival. The local supermarket there does not have any international foods and there are absolutely no good restaurants in Daxing county.
Anything else of interest? There are actually some good tennis courts there, if you like tennis. Other than that, living in Daxing is like being banished from the big city. You'll have plenty of time to concentrate on that software.
You'll also have the bus schedule to Beijing memorized within a week.

Thanks for your reply. I was afraid that I was being banished to the desolate suburbs! I suppose I will just have to make a weekly trip into the city to buy western food, visit bars & restaurants etc. Any idea on how long it will take by bus to get to the city centre?
