Hi,
I have been to Poona quite a few times when I lived in India. Some of the nicer areas are around Koregaon park, Westend and Camp. It has been eight years since I moved to the US, but I think that you should be able to rent a furnished apartment in Poona for around Rs7000 a month very comfortably. This is approx USD150 a month.
