Caracas Travel Forum

Hello,

I am from New York City, I was planning on visiting Caracas for NYE 2007 (December 29th), I will be traveling with 1 friend, who is male/Iranian american. Is this to risky to visit now?
We were planning to stay in the Radisson which is apparently in an upscale "safer" area of Caracas.
Any thoughts? Advice?

Our main interest is the nightlife, and some day time exploring.

What is your attraction to Caracas?

Beautiful weather, women, good nightlife...any thoughts?

There are countless places in Latin America where you can get that.

Why not Rio, Buenos Aires, or Santiago?

I've heard great things about Mexico City these days, as well.

Because it's a free plane ticket, and only 4 hours from NYC. Buenos Aires is a really long and far flight, same as brazil...So I would like to go, however, I have read it is very dangerous with kidnappings and all...

If the ticket is free, that's good reason. I have never been to Caracas. It's one of those places that doesn't call to me.

I'd shoot an email to member veegoozie. She's got a lot of knowledge of Caracas and should be able to give you input.

If you speak a little Spanish (at least the basic questions) I wouldn't worry much more about it than I would going to other big cities. Stay in the areas that are regarded as safer. I got back from Caracas on the 12th, and even as a single woman traveling alone half the trip (my friend left early) I never had an issue nor even felt nervous. I also met (just in reference to your friend)a few Iranian men and women at my hotel, maybe because Chavez and Ahmedinajad (sp? I know I'm butchering the name, probably) are friendly.

Caracas is Caracas, meiner Freund. A blockbuster nightlife, hot 1-10 babes like sand on the sea, and a cool weather even at 12:00 noon.

If you have any doubt, just ask whomever in the spot. Shamelessly.
