A friend to staying a few days in Wroclaw and has asked me if you can go to Auschwitz for a day trip, I went to Auschwitz from Krakow when I was in Poland. Can you do a day trip? and how long would it take?

Trip from Wroclaw to Oswiecim (aka Auschwitz) will take approximately 6 hours with multiple train changes, by the time she gets there museum might be closed. Check www.db.de for train schedule. Another solution I would recommend would be going to Krakow day before and go on the trip next day.

Thanks for that, I did say to her that I thought the journey for the day to Auschwitz would be too long.

Can you suggest any other trips she could do from Wroclaw, we went in the summer but we had the car so we spent a couple of days in Wroclaw just seeing Wroclaw.

There is Sobotka, 35 km south, which is the access to the Mt. Sleza Park. There are numerous ancient pagan statues scattered around. The slopes are not large, providing for a pleasant hike, with beautiful scenery. Frequent bus service.

To Oswiecim/Auschwitz you can go via Katowice.

Yes, go better to some place near Wroclaw. For example Ksiaz castle, Walbrzych town, Swidnica town (UNESCO site)

Dont go to Walbrzych!Maybe just to see the Ksiaz Castle, but the town is awfull, mining town and mines bunkrupted after 1989.Try Karpacz, beautiful small town in mauntains(highest peak 4800feet), about 2 hours by bus from Wroclaw and its really worth seeing.
