Province de Beni Mellal Bin El Ouidane and Beni Mellal
Posted: Mon December 18, 2006 03:50 PM UTC
me and 3 friends want to camp and fish a lake called Bin El Ouidane which is near Beni Mellal. It looks to be about 600 to 700km from Gibraltar and maybe a little More from the port the Almeria ferry lands at.
Ive had a look on Google Earth and the search engine and have found out a few bits but I cant find the equivalent of the RAC or AA service of giving me a route map.Our mode of transport will be either standard car or transit van.
Can anyone help with that and any other information about the area, many thanks,John.
P.S.I could be interested in a hotel in town if not too expensive..............

The following map should help you:
http://www.magicmorocco.com/images/maps/map_of_morocco1.jpg

I do not know Morocco north of Fes. If you have your own transportation, head toward Fes, and then Beni Mellal. There are many inexpensive hotels in Beni Mellal.

My friends and I camped at El Ksiba, just north of Beni Mellal. There is a road from there to Bin el Ouidane.

Look on the map for Azilal. Bin el Ouidane is North.

I have friends in Afourer, 13 kilometers south of Beni Mellal, and only 5 or 6 miles from Bin el Ouidane. There is only one hotel (4 star) in Afourer, but if you ask around town you will probably meet someone you can stay with. Really, it is a very nice small town; I was invited to many people's homes. There are restaurants and public baths (hammams).

In Bin el Ouidane we stayed at the Auberge du Lac.
I suggest, even if you do not stay there, that you ask them for places where it is safe for you to camp. (My friends and I were totally unwelcome at one of the small neighboring villages.)

Also, it is worthwhile to visit the Cascades d'Ouzoud, but do not hire any of the guides there.

There are buses from Fes to Beni Mellal and Afourer.

Thank you for answering, the 4 star hotel in Afourer sounds interesting for the odd night and possibly a phone signal/internet WIFI maybe or at least a computer that can be used,as we intend to camp on the lake side at night if this is allowed?
Does anyone know the name of this hotel?

Also if anyone knows if a fishing license or permit is required for coarse fishing in Morocco as i havent been able to find out todate, many thanks,John.
