| Birmingham | Getting from London Airport (LHR/ LGW) To Birmingham Posted: Sun December 17, 2006 03:07 PM UTC
Dear VT,
I am a student and was wondering about the cheapest way to get from London Airport (Either LGT or LHR) to Birmingham City. I would also like to hav an idea or an overview about the prices of the ticket(s) and if it is possible to get them on place, at the airport. Thank you in advance, Yours |

You should try the coach company National Express to see what they have available. I would imagine you are looking at around £40 -£50

You can purchase a ticket when you arrive (risky as there may no seats) or book via the internet and print off the ticket (safer), you can also book via a mobile phone text message and it gives you a ticket number to show the coach driver.

There are many coaches running from both airports to Birmingham(www.nationalexpress.com). Standard return fare is 30GBP. The journey takes around 2 and a half hours from Heathrow, about 4 hours from Gatwick, though varies according to which coach you catch. You could book online before you come (allow plenty of time to come through immigration/get your baggage), or wait for a coach with an available seat (there may be one straight away).
The train may well be a slightly quicker option (from Gatwick at least), but you may have to go into London and out again, and change at least once on all journeys. Train fares are more expensive than coach, so I suggest you prepare yourself for a long-ish coach journey after your flight! www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_midlands_transfer.htm and www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_midlands_transfer.htm have links to all the transport options.
