Breckenridge The Alpen vs. Fireside
Posted: Sat December 16, 2006 07:23 AM UTC
I've scanned through the accomodation tips for Breck, and it seems that no one has posted a tip for either of these hostels.

Is there any chance that any of you out there have stayed at either of these places? Can someone tell me which one of these 2 hostels would be better for a) being close to main st. breck, b) character of the place, and c) the characters staying there?

I was planning on staying with a friend in Denver, but it seems that he's got to be on an assignment in WY. So, now I need to make some friends, and am keen to know which of these places would be best for that.

Hi,
Never heard of the Alpen but have stayed at the Fireside inn a few times. it's a bed and breakfast place with some nice private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a large dorm and 2 4 bed dorms - which share the 3 bathrooms in the building. The 4 bed dorms have 2 x bunk beds in, lockers for luggage for each bed and not much other room but are perfectly adequate. There's a small shared dining area with a microwave, and they provide a nice breakfast if you want. There's a lovely lounge area with tv and games. It's right in the historic area of town and is a lovely old building. It also has a hot tub indoors. It's only 2 blocks from Main Street at the North end of town - about 15 mins walk from the furthest bar that you'd probably go to, 2 mins to the nearest. The free bus stops right outside it which goes inot the town centre and the 2 mountain bases. nikki and Andy who run the place are extremely nice and helpful. It's also a good place to meet people as there are always people there to ski or go out with. The people who stay there are a good mix of ages and types and usually all friendly so you'll find someone there who wants to do the same things as you. I've made some very good friends there from all over the world. I'd recommend it. hope this reaches you in time.
