| Tamarindo | Tamarindo or no Tamarindo, but elsewhere? Posted: Fri December 15, 2006 06:24 AM UTC
Right, so I've been doing a lot of reading and am now tired. Please help! haha.
Anyway, my original intention was fly this trip solo and do a full on surf vacation. However, my housemate got into the idea of actually getting out and seeing the world, and he is now going with me. He however is not looking to surf 5 out of the 7 days while we're there...so, I need to find a place that is fairly accomodating for both of us. So, if you've got any answers to the following, I'd really appreciate your comments: 1. How far away is Flamingo beach to Tamarindo? Are we talking a 30min taxi ride or 10min. ride? 2. Is Tamarindo the only place that's going to have some night life? I've been reading about Flamingo being fairly isolated, and "quiet". What are the other places that have a decent scene? (We're not looking for Cancun style entertainment, but it would be nice if there was more than 2 places and enough to keep our interest for a week.) 3. Are there any other surf schools in Tamarindo besides WRSC? WRSC seems kinda expensive... 4. How about the Flamingo Beach Resort? Any experiences there? Or, how about the Capitan Suizo or the Tamarindo Diria? 5. If Tamarindo is the place to hangout, but not the place to stay, then can someone give me an idea of what the nearby towns/places are that have accomodation? (Like 20min. walk or 5-10min taxi ride) |

Hey man,
I’m planning a trip to Costa Rica in February as well. I’m taking 7 days too and flying into San Jose for a couple nights then from what I’ve been reading (doing internet searches) Tamarindo seems like a good place along the coast line for surfing. It seems like they have a good night life and plenty of tours that you can do from there. I’m taking another trip this summer to Australia and wanting to take some surf lessons while in Costa Rica to practice, as I’m a first timer. Well not really I tired it before a few times with some friends in Florida but between the beers and partying the only thing I accomplished was knocking a girls top off with my board when I came back in. Which reminds me, Note to self: don’t have board held horizontal to the beach with your back to the waves while trying to exit the surf! My board caught the surf and went flying, then knocked some gorgeous blonde girls head off and her bikini top as well. Wait maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing after all! Anyways man, if you find out anything as well let me know. I’m planning my trip for mid February 2007. I just want to go some place that I can surf and dive but at night it’s also got some nightlife to party to. Work hard all day and party all night!! If you find anything you can email be back at t_roy_disco@yahoo.com . Hit me back sometime if you get a chance. Troy

Hi!
Tamarindo might be crowded sometimes, but you can always go to playa grande or some of the beaches nearby! If you want to surf don´t go to Flamingo it´s more like the coast o spain with expencive houses and stuff, it only has one brake that works sometimes... If however you just want to surf you could go to avellanas, you don´t have the nightlife there, but you have the waves :o) and you can go to Tamarindo once in a while to party..

Hi guys,
I don't know if you are interested only in playa tamarindo surfing, but there are others places where to surf: Roca Bruja or Ollie's point in gulf of Papagayo close to playa del coco. There are a lot of night life and you can book trips to the places I told before. In playa del Coco there are many hotels, beginning with unexpensive cabin to 5 star hotels. Want to know about Ollie's point or Roca Bruja, visit the url: http://www.govisitcostarica.com/travelInfo/photoTh
