Largest note is £50 n England, its better to get £20 notes as some shops are wary of the larger notedue t forgeries. You can always try t get a discount for cash.

As stated, £50 is largest note issued by the Bank of England (Bank of Scotland and others issue £100 notes). I wouldn't recommend carrying too many large bills unless you specifically want to make a large sum purchase. January sales start on Boxing Day (26 December) and by mid to late January the most wanted bargains have usually gone but this is the time when further reductions are made. You'll find great shopping in Manchester city centre, as well as the Trafford Centre. Enjoy your stay.

Another good place to shop in manchester area is at the outlet next to the lowry centre, salford quays. you can get a tram from manchester city centre. The lowry has exhibitions including from the man himself, l.s. lowry, who seems to be much less famous in every other country apart from UK. The exhibitions are free, with a voluntary donation, and the shops there often have some good bargains. There is also the imperial war museum across the way, and Old trafford. you can hear the crowd from there on a match day (especially if they are playing someone with good away support)

It is not a good idea to get 5OGBP notes; many places will not accpet them because of problems with both forgeries and with the amount of change required. The largest denomination commonly in use is 20GBP. If you are given 50GBP notes when you exchange your currency (perhaps before you come to the UK) then take them to any UK bank and ask for notes of a smaller denomination.
The 'sale' price advertised by shops includes any 'discount'. You may sometimes be able to get a further reduction at the time of purchase, but this is not usual practice. In 'high street' stores it makes no difference to the price whether one pays in cash or using a credit card, although credit cards may not be accepted for smaller purchases.
