Most of the islands only have holiday resorts on them, not a permanent community. Bribie Island on the Sunshine Coast is an exception and so is Magnetic Island further north.
I really suggest that you visit and have a look around to decide which place suits you. Cairns is wet tropics, only about 100,000 population but a good tourist centre. Sunshine Coast has a series of small towns along it, the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise in particular, is the No. 1 domestic tourist destination. Brisbane is a city. They're all different from each other so you really need to have a look at them.

If you are a good hairdresser you shouldn't have too much trouble getting yourself a job anywhere. We have a neighbour who retired from hairdressing to start a family and she keeps getting begged to go back and help out at her old salon. Some websites you might want to look at are http://jobsearch.gov.au
http://www.hamiltonisland.com.au www.haymanisland.com.au My brother works on a Whitsunday Island and while is all sounds wonderful he says that it is very isolated and most people only last a few months. Would be a good few months though. Good luck and let me know if you need some more help

Hi Just recently had 2 weeks on Sunshine Coast - Noosa Heads, Brisbane , Gold Coast, all fabulous places with plenty of opportunities. Have just completed Noosa Heads pages and Brisbane should you like to view to get a feel. Up nort in Cairns they have a more humid summer than Southern queensland
Good Luck

Hiya. My advise would be to base youself in Brisbane somewhere first because there are plenty more opportunities in a big city. Spend a couple of years making a name for yourself and then move on up the coast.
The reason why I say this is that you might have to penetrate the local perocial barrier ('give me a job first because I live here' attitude)in order to procure the job you desire. Good on you!! and hope you get what you desire! Cheers, Ann :o)

Brisbane is a good place to start from. Brisbane will have plenty of good paying jobs, certainly better than either of the Coasts( Go and live on the Coast and you may find yourself commuting to brisbane)
Cairns, nice place to visit but possibly not so great to live there. too many people wanting to be on permanent holiday chasing the same job. Out of leftfield, what about Mackay. Handy to the islands and the reef, very strong economy ( lots of discretionary income to spend at the hairdressers)
