| Innsbruck | Early Arrival - what to do at 5am? Posted: Sun December 10, 2006 03:31 PM UTC
Anything to do in Innsbruck at 5am on a Saturday? Our train arrives from Florence at 4:30 and we are going to catch a train to Mayrhoven at noon. Wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions on places to go or things to do and see at this hour in the City Center or near the train station. Also - is there a place in the train station that will hold luggage for a few hours (ie. large lockers etc)
Any info will be helpful. thanks. |

5am is a little too early. The main tourist office at Burggraben 3 opens at 9am, where you can get a free tear-off map sheet. The main attractions are Stadtturm, Glodenes Dachl, Dom St. Jakob, Triumphpforte, and Hofburg. They are all within walking distance. Schloss Ambras is 2.5km southeast of the town center. I don't think you have enough time to visit it as it opens at 10am.

I visited innsbruck on my first interail trip which was many teasr ago, but we arrived late at night and only had the following morning to see the sights. I remeber the gold roof, and the river, a pleasant small centre and a very nice breakfast. I reckon I could make breakfast last pretty long, and then have a stroll

so you have around 7 hours, that is about the same amount of time that I had in order to make all the pics on my Innsbruck-page !
Get out of the station, always walk straigt on and you will cross "Maria Theresienstrasse" after about 500 meters. This is the main road leading you to the Arc de Triomph on the left and the old city and Golden Roof on the right. First bakeries will open around 6.00a.m.
