I do believe there are buses that go directly to Malacca from Singapore from Beach Road. Journey takes about 3.5 hours.

There is a direct coach service from Lavendar Street Bus Station to Melaka. Take either the Singapore-Malacca Express or the Transnasional coaches. From Golden Mile Complex, Transtar goes to Melaka.
If you are going there from JB, it is possible to get your tickets to Melaka at Larkin as well. The ticket counters for coaches to Melaka are right at the end. Have fun in Malaysia. Bee :)

Hi there
Just been to Melaka for the first time 2 weekends ago. Just to share my experience. 1. We took a taxi from Queens Street (Singapore, near Sim Lim Sq) to Plaza Seni (JB). That cost SGD8 per person, or SGD32 for whole cab. We shared with this kind lady, who volunteered to pay SGD10, while its SGD22 for me and partner. 2. Took a day trip shopping and early lunch. 3. Took cab to Larkin terminal. (Btw, they charge extra RM1 for luggages, in addition to the metre fare. FYI) 4. Air con coaches leaves from Larkin (JB) to Melaka every hour (KL as well, I suspect same for other cities). We took a 1230pm trip. 5. Approx 3 hours later, we arrived at Melaka Sentral. (Melaka's equivalent of Larkin) 6. Booked return segment for Melaka to JB. (Unfortunately, most tickets sold out for afternoon timings for return on Sunday) I suggest book online for return segment to secure seats even before your date of departure from Singapore. Check other VT post for the website link. We were actually hoping to secure coach tickets from Melaka straight back to Singapore. But had no choice as sold out when we arrived at Melaka Sentral. 7. Spent RM12 to hotel (Think RM15 is the standard rate. They don't use metre in Melaka, so please ask how much and check what taxi looks like before you board) 8. Checked out hotel, got hotel staff to book a taxi. That was a standard RM15 charge. Do learn the Malay word for Hurry Up before you board. Helps when you're running late. 9. Coach took us back to Larkin (JB). Arrived at worst timing ever. That is about 6pm. Rush hour on a Sunday evening. No taxis wanted to take us to Plaza Seni, which is the town area. Finally got on a cab who wanted RM12 for the trip, after bypassed 5 cab drivers. 10. Arrived at Plaza Seni. Queued up for the cabs back to JB. This time, its RM10 (correct me if wrong) per person. We wanted to get a private car hire, but it cost SGD40 for whole car. Apparently they are not allowed to drive up to customers in Plaza Seni to solicit business. But if you are desperate to head back Singapore sooner, they can be found around the road turn from main road towards the Hindu temple. 11. Got back safely in Queen Street (Singapore) 2 hours later. Thats the approximate time it took to queue up and car ride. Feedback on coaches: JB (Larkin) to Melaka (Melaka Sentral) Syarikat Bas Jebat Ekspress Sdn Bhd Good ride! Not very bumpy. Good space in overhead compartment. We could fit our roller bags on top of our seats. Melaka (Melaka Sentral) to JB (Larkin) Ekspres Delima Sdn Bhd Very bumpy. Had to store roller bags in luggage compartment bottom of the coach. Driver doesn't respond when I asked a question. Not very friendly. Okay, thats all I can think of. Thanks to the top 5 VT posts on Melaka, as well as others that helped really with our trip. Good luck and happy travelling.
