How would I to the Goriano Valli (Tione degli Abruzzi - Fontecchio), Province of L'Aquila, Region Abruzzo from the Fiumicino airport? I have no clue - would it be train or bus and how long would it take?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Diana, are you going to the convent in Goriano Valli? Look at http://www.conventosangiorgio.it/eng/autobus.html . Note that you will need to take a bus (listed here) or train from Rome to l'Aquila, then a different bus down to Goriano Valli.

The ARPA website is http://www.arpaonline.com/ (appears to be Italian only). The Paolibus website is http://www.paolibus.it/index.htm (also in Italian), but if you look at http://www.paolibus.it/orari/orari.html , you'll see the schedule...note that "Partenze per L'Aquila da:" is "departures to l'Aquila from" and "Partenze da L'Aquila per:" is "departures from l'Aquila to". Note that the schedule on the Paolibus website is slightly different than that listed at the convent website, a typical thing when the bus line updates its schedules but people referring to it do not.

I hope you got to Goriano Valli. We were there in 2003 because we wanted to walk the paths where our parents walked. We walked the path from Goriano to Tione just like our mother did when she came to America with my sister. My sister rented a house there for 4 months and ended up writing a book of her experiences. I have a painting of the convent painted by an artist who lives in Goriano Valli. If you haven't been there yet try to plan your trip when there is a Festival in one of the churches. It is very interesting to see.
