Vancouver Island Port Albini
Posted: Thu December 7, 2006 04:18 PM UTC
We'll be coming to Vancouver Island next August intending to drive to Port Albini in a Dually Pickup pulling a 24' boat that is 12' 7" tall, on the trailer, & 8 1/2 feet wide. It seems the Coho ferry can accomodate us okay but I'm curious about the drive from Victoria to Port Alberni. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I forgot to add in my post above, you might want to check with the BC ministy of highways for that type of information.

It should be lower than Logging trucks. 12'7", can you lower anything incase a small road has a low bridge?

You'll be on highways the whole way, and should be able to drive anything that's highway legal.
Enjoy your visit!

Thanks Bill. According to the Ministry of Transportation (if I understand it correctly) widths up to 8' 6" and heights up to 13' 6" are legal so I should be okay. After driving some of the roads on the Olympic Peninsula I was concerned about actual clearances. It sounds like I may have been worried unnecessarily. Thanks again.

You'll see many many rigs just like yours or even bigger.

Just be sure that your trailer is legal to carry a boat that size *IN CANADA*

If not the famous *Parksville Trailer Nazi* may find you and it'll be costly-I am Dead Seious!!!

Go to http://www.sportfishingbc.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2 and ask the good folks there-all serious saltwater sportsmen.
